From 1895 to 1903 a number of "US" marked Single Action Army revolvers, like this one, were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were modified (to 5 1/2 inch barrel length), dismantled and refinished, often with little regard to which gun the refinished parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. This revolver has a 5 1/2 inch barrel, casehardened frame and hammer and blue remaining parts. The serial numbers are mixed on these altered models and they were remarked by inspectors of the era. This revolver is serial numbered "50422" on the frame, "18703/C" on the trigger guard, "18703" on the back strap and "9465" on the cylinder. It bears the standard one line address on top of the barrel, "P" twice marked on the bottom of the barrel and the three line, three patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". "HN", stamped on the bottom of the frame above the serial number and on the cylinder. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "1882". It has the standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with the correct smooth one-piece walnut grip with "1903" stamped above a visible cartouche on the right side and marked "R.A.C." on both sides of the bottom.

The frame shows 20% faded case colors which is mostly present on the protected areas with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The hammer shows most of the case colors. The grip is very good with fiant cartouche, legible inspection markings and a few minor dings and chips on the bottom and overall a few dents and dings. The action functions, but is slightly our of time.
