Blade front and groove rear sights, with "US/ JA/ P" on the upper left side of the barrel, "S" on the left flat, and "A.WATERS/ MILBURY. MS./ 1840" on the lock plate below an eagle headstamp and next to a "B". Smooth stock, with a swiveling ramrod, iron furniture, a pair of cartouches on the left side, and a metal buttcap. The last U.S. martial flintlock pistol, the 1836 was standard issue during the Mexican War, with many converted to percussion and used during the Civil War.

Condition: Very good, with a bright appearance to the barrel, darker on the lock and tang, with some mild spotting and pitting. The hammer is an artificially aged modern replacement, otherwise original flintlock components. Stock is good, with a crack extending from the trigger guard and opposite the lock, along with some light pressure dents. Mechanically very good.
