Two Green Russian Vaseline Trade Bead Necklaces
For your consideration are these two green Russian Vaseline trade bead necklaces. Vaseline Beads are a variety of Czech trade bead originally manufactured in Bohemia (present day Czechoslovakia) between the late 19th and early 20th century. Their name derives from their distinctive translucent yellow color – similar to that of Vaseline/ petroleum jelly. Vaseline Beads are also known as “Uranium Glass Beads” owing to the small quantities of the element used to influence their color. The first and larger necklace is a cloudy, pale green color held together by a thin metal wire. The beads feature varying tints and shades of the pale green color giving the necklace a nice contrast. The first necklace measures 14 1/2" L x 1/2" W and weighs 296.5 grams. The second, smaller necklace in this collection is a more translucent green color bound by a metal wire and features metal hooks for taking on and off. The beads on this necklace are more consistent with how they look, but still offer various tints and shades of green. The beads are all in good condition with only one being slightly chipped and broken. This second necklace measures 11 3/4" L x 5/8" W and weighs 170.8 grams. Both necklaces are in good condition overall.
