Third model Brown Bess musket, .69 caliber, 39" barrel, showing "GR" and crown on barrel, British proofs on breech with regimental markings on rear of barrel which read "K" over "DP" and "69". The metal surfaces show a dark brown patina with scattered light to moderate rust and erosion and some small areas of heavy pitting. The lock markings are legible, the hammer screw is sheared off and missing. The gun is in its originalflintlock configuration and retains proper small parts. The swivels have been removed and the rifle has been ornately mounted with hammered and engraved silver-colored metal along with polished steel tacks in themiddle-eastern or Indian manner. An original to the period ramrod is included. The gun shows a 1780 period lazy "S" type sideplate. There are some small areas of damage to the stock and some slivers of wood missing fromthe edges of the forend, lost long ago. Est: $1,250 - $2,500
