Included in this lot we have a first edition copy of "The Sportsman's Gazetteer and General Guide" by Charles Hallock. The book was printed by Forest and Stream Publishing Company, American News Company, Agents in 1877. Charles Hallock is an American publisher and author who is known for his work on establishing uniform game laws and reservations for sportsmen in Minnesota. He was so successful at this that Hallock, Minnesota was named after him. The Sportsman's Gazetteer and general guide. The game animals, birds and fishes of North America: Their habits and various methods of capture contains instructions on shooting, fishing, skinning and taxidermy, woodcraft, and more. The book covers information on game animals, gear and technique recommendations, hazards particularly to hunting dogs, and tricks of the sport, as well as contains two maps. The book shows a green cloth cover with black pressed patterns with a gilt gold dog portrait at the center and black lettering reading "Sportsman's Gazetteer And General Guide". The spine is marked in gilt gold lettering reading "The Sportsman's Gazetteer Hallock F & S Pub. Co.". The book shows good condition overall for its age with some wear on the spine. The piece measures 7 5/8" tall by 5 1/2" wide and 2" thick.
