(Disney, 1994) An early development pitch packet for "Hercules." Titled "Hercules: The Nicholson Pitch - in beautiful color!" this packet was created to woo Jack Nicholson to voice the part of Hades. Danny DeVito suggested Nicholson for the role, and Jack came to the Studio to hear the pitch. After Disney and Nicholson were far apart on pay, Disney hired John Lithgow, who was eventually let go due to creative differences. Finally, James Woods was cast, transforming Hades from a menacing figure to a fast-talking wheeler and dealer. Dated November 16, 1994, the pitch outlines in color printouts production stylist Sue Nichols' plan for the film, with storyboards, historical references, character development, location references, and concept artwork by Gerald Scarfe and Hans Bacher. Measuring 11" x 17", the 29-page pitch is in very good condition with light fading from age, creasing, edge and corner wear from handling, slight water damage to the top right corner and oxidation marks at the top left cover, and markings from original production use.
