This lot includes "The Last Outpost" Photograph by Joseph K. Dixon from 1909. This photograph is from the Wanamaker Indian expeditions of 1909-1913 and was printed as a silver gelatin print in 1915. Rodman Wanamaker employed former Baptist preacher and lecturer Joseph Kossuth Dixon as his official photographer and expedition leader. During this expedition Joseph Dixon took over 8,000 negatives of Native American Indians, including this gelatin silver print from "The Last Outpost" from 1909. The photographs during these expeditions also appear in Joseph K. Dixon's illustrated record of the Wanamaker expeditions, "The Vanishing Race: The Last Great Indian Council". This photograph was printed as a silver gelatin print and shows a wonderful clear vivid picture. This photograph displays a Native American warrior scouting atop a cliff with a bow in his hand. The warrior is adorned in a beautiful beaded warrior's jacket. Below the man is a beautiful waterfront and excellent, large sky. This piece is displayed excellently in an excellent Oak frame. This piece was displayed at the "Andrew Smith Gallery" and shows excellent condition. The visible art measures 14 1/4" by 24". This photographer has recently had a similar sized negative photograph sell for 10,000 at Skinner Auction Company. The frame measures 26 1/2" by 34 1/2".
