Some hunts are about finding one missing coin. This one could fill an entire cabinet.

Beck Auctions presents The Great Canadian Coin Hunt – In House, an impressive 150-lot numismatic collection spanning ancient history, early Canadian coinage, international rarities, American silver, Royal Canadian Mint issues and decades of Canadian collecting.

From coins dating back to the Roman Empire to classic Canadian silver dollars and modern .9999 fine-silver issues, this catalogue offers something for the seasoned numismatist, precious-metal buyer and new collector alike.

Rare, Graded & Historic Coins

The hunt begins with several especially intriguing pieces.

Among the opening highlights is a 1949 France 5 Francs graded MS66, catalogued as the only known example at that grade by TPCG, alongside a striking 1908 China Pei Yang 7 Mace 2 Candareens Dragon silver coin, also graded MS66.

Collectors can travel even further back in time with a Roman Empire bronze Antoninianus dating to 260–268 AD.

Canadian numismatists should take note of the 1936 Canadian silver dollar with rotated-die mint error, struck in 80% silver and featuring King George V, as well as a 1941 Newfoundland sterling-silver 5-cent coin.

American classics include a 1936-S Buffalo Nickel, while paper-money collectors will find a 1935A Hawaii Emergency WWII $1 Silver Certificate, a 1957B U.S. Silver Certificate and international banknotes.

A Major Selection of Canadian Silver Dollars

If you collect Canadian silver, this is where the hunt becomes particularly interesting.

The catalogue contains lot after lot of 80% silver Canadian dollars, including Voyageur issues and commemoratives from the 1930s through the Centennial era.

Look for dates and designs including:

1939 Parliament • 1953 • 1958 British Columbia Totem • 1959 • 1961 • 1963 • 1964 Charlottetown-Québec • 1965 Voyageur • 1966 • 1967 Centennial Goose

Many are grouped into multi-coin lots, giving silver buyers and Canadian collectors an opportunity to acquire substantial groups rather than single examples at a time.

Build the Canadian Collection

This auction isn't limited to silver dollars.

A standout lot brings together more than 60 Canadian 25-cent coins spanning 1918–1992, including silver and nickel issues, followed by a further collection of 49 Canadian quarters from 1993–2008.

There is also an extensive collection of Canadian 50-cent pieces dating from 1973 through 2023, providing an unusually broad opportunity for collectors working on denomination runs and modern Canadian issues.

More Than Two Kilograms of Sterling Silver

Precious-metal collectors should pay particular attention to the Franklin Mint Great Silver Miniature Classic Car Collection.

This substantial collector's set contains miniature classic-car ingots struck in .925 sterling silver with a catalogued total weight of 2,169.9 grams — combining automotive history, Franklin Mint collecting and serious silver content in one distinctive lot.

Royal Canadian Mint — Proofs, Specimens & Fine Silver

A major portion of this auction is devoted to the Royal Canadian Mint, with boxed issues, certificates, proof sets, specimen sets and commemorative silver spanning many years.

Collectors will find numerous complete RCM proof and specimen sets from the late 1990s through the 2010s, including issues commemorating the RCMP, Golden Jubilee, National Ballet of Canada, Canadian Flag, Victoria Cross and major moments in Canadian history.

Fine-silver highlights include:

Silver Maple Leafs • Queen's Diamond Jubilee • Victoria Cross • Niagara Falls holograms • Maple Leaf holograms • Lucky Loonie • Vimy Ridge • Gilles Villeneuve • RCMP • T-Rex & Parasaurolophus fossil coins • Chinese Railway Workers • Canadian military commemoratives • Alberta Centennial silver

Many examples are housed in their original Royal Canadian Mint presentation cases and accompanied by certificates.

Colour, Gold & Holograms

Not every collectible coin has to look traditional.

This catalogue features an appealing assortment of innovative Canadian Mint issues incorporating colour, selective gold plating, holographic elements and Swarovski crystals.

Look for Silver Maple Leafs with coloured maple leaves, Niagara Falls hologram coins, Maple of Long Life holograms, gold-plated floral issues, butterfly coins, the 2010 Holiday Pine Cone silver coin embellished with ruby Swarovski elements, and a dramatic 2005 $20 silver issue featuring a diamond-shaped hologram.

American Silver & International Numismatics

The collection reaches well beyond Canada.

American silver buyers will find a group of five 1922–1923 Peace Dollars struck in 90% silver, while world-coin collectors can explore pieces and sets from France, China, Britain, New Zealand, Hungary, the British Virgin Islands and the Roman Empire.

There's even a 1935 Pony Express Diamond Jubilee medal, adding another piece of North American history to the mix.

And A Few Surprises Along the Way

True treasure hunts always have a few unexpected turns.

Mixed into the catalogue are collectible cards and memorabilia including a PSA-graded Mike Bossy O-Pee-Chee card, Marcel Dionne rookie, signed Brett Hull card, signed and numbered Drew Brees rookie, and early T206 tobacco-era baseball cards.

So even collectors who arrive looking for silver may find themselves bidding on something completely different before the auction is over.
