The Alamo (1960), Santa Anna Red Infantry Officers Costume
In the days long before CGI, movie Armies were just that... real live people. It gave these epic features something special, something that computer generated "hordes "just don't seem to accomplish. This was very true in John Wayne's "The Alamo" (1960). Especially in the actual attack by General Santa Anna's Army. He enlisted hundreds of actual military for these scenes, and made sure their stunning uniforms were accurate down to the buttons. This is an actual hero screen worn Artillery Officers Uniform of the Mexican Army. It includes a black felt hat with gold trim and black leather chin strap and a red/green/white leather stamped cockade with gold braid; a red tunic coatee with gold epaulets with fringe and blue stand up collar with white trim, and blue cuffs; gray draw string pants, and gold belt with brass buckle. Inside the tunic is a "Republic Pictures" stamp and a "Western Costume Company" stamp. This outfit is hero screen worn, but some missing pieces have been painstakingly reproduced at Western Costume Company based on costume designer Frank Beetson, Jr's, notes, and production stills to make the outfit complete. Comes with all documentation and an official COA.
