The Alamo (1960) Santa Anna Army Artillery Officer Costume
Who can forget Dimitri Tiomkin's "The Green Leaves of Summer", the bittersweet haunting theme song to "The Alamo" (1960)? It represented the heroism, yet final defeat of that tragic famous battle. John Wayne mounted an amazing production, (as producer, director and star), and demanded hyper-scrupulous detail from every department. This is a hero screen worn Artillery Officer Uniform from General Santa Anna's Army. It includes a Shako (tall cylindrical military cap) with black ribbed material, felt red, green, white top with a small red, green, white pompom in gold bowl; black leather brim with black chin strap and brass buckle; discolored cockade with "cross cannon" insignia; tunic with short blue jacket with red stand up collar and gold epaulets; dark blue gaiters pants with side fasteners and red side stripes; a leather pouch with shoulder sling strap and matching belt with brass buckle. Inside the tunic there is a Republic Pictures stamp, and inside the military pants is a Western Costume label. The uniform is all "hero", and to make it complete some of the smaller accessories that were missing were painstakingly reproduced based on costume designer Frank Beetson, Jr's notes, and screen production shots. Comes with all documentation and an official COA.
