RIFLES. 2 U.S. Indian War Era: 1) Cal. 45-70. S# 424979. Bbl. 32". Buffington ladder rear sight marked "R" on top of ladder graduated to 1400 yards. Blade front sight. Flat lockplate marked "US SPRINGFIELD". Low arched breechblock is marked "US MODEL 1878". Bbl. is marked over chamber w/ "VP" "eagle" acceptance stamp "P" "A". Late type hammer. Walnut stock secured by 2 bands. Late type ramrod. Buttplate tang is marked "US". CONDITION: stock has been given an arsenal rework type finish w/ added finish rendering markings obscure. Metal has 75% arsenal rework type blue finish w/ thinning & light wear. Bore has sharp lands w/ scattered pitting throughout. 2) Cal. 45-70. S# 136832. Bbl. 32" w/ Buffington ladder rear sight graduated to 1400 yards. Marked "R" on top of ladder. Blade front sight. Original sight blade replaced w/ taller blade. Flat lock plate marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" "eagle". Late type hammer. Late type ramrod. Case colored breech block marked "U.S. MODEL 1873". Bbl. is marked on top left over chamber "VP" "eagle" head acceptance mark "P" & marked over chamber w/ tiny "R". Long comb walnut stock. Buttplate is marked "US". CONDITION: stock set has been given a hobbyist gunsmith type refinish. Stock has been heavily scrape to remove old finish which renders markings illegible. Metal retains 75% arsenal rework blued finish except replacement breech block shows large degree of original case colors. Very good shiny bore. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E.
