SEREDAY'S HARDWARE & FEED OPERATIONS & TRANSITION MANUAL

Business Overview & History
Sereday’s Hardware & Feed was purchased in 1979 by brothers Ken and Gary Sereday. The business has served the West Middlesex community for over 46 years providing feed, farm supplies, hardware, lawn and garden products, heating products, bird seed, pet supplies, and seasonal merchandise. The building was originally constructed in 1973. Following Gary Sereday’s passing, Ken Sereday and wife Brenda Sereday became sole owners in 2015 and continued operating the business until retirement.
Beyond its hardware and retail operations, Sereday's Hardware & Feed became known throughout the region for its custom feed manufacturing and bird seed blending programs. For decades, local farmers, amish community, livestock owners, 4-H families, and backyard bird enthusiasts relied on custom mixes produced at the mill. Many of these formulations were developed through years of hands-on experience, customer feedback, and changing agricultural needs. The ability to manufacture custom feed and proprietary bird seed blends became a defining part of the business and contributed significantly to its reputation for personalized service and community support.
Custom Feed & Bird Seed Program
One of the unique features of Sereday's Hardware & Feed has been the ability to manufacture custom livestock feeds and proprietary bird seed blends in-house. Feed Products: 8% Beef Chop, 16% Calf Grower, 16% Layer Feed, Scratch Feed, 12% Rancher Feed, 16% Goat Feed, 12% Sheep Feed, 16% Dairy Feed, 16% Hog Feed. Bird Seed Products: Special Mix, Deluxe Mix, No Corn Mix. The formulas, mixing procedures, ingredient specifications, and production notes are maintained separately as confidential business information and may be transferred to the purchaser upon completion of a sale.
Custom Mixing Operations
Historically, custom feed was mixed on-site utilizing bulk grain storage, feed ingredients, minerals, supplements, and liquid molasses. Future operators should familiarize themselves with ingredient sourcing, mixer operation, grain storage procedures, bagging procedures, inventory management, and feed labeling requirements.
Product Guides
These materials contain proprietary operational knowledge accumulated over decades of operation and should only be provided to a purchaser after closing.

Many vendor relationships span multiple decades.

Customer loyalty and community relationships have been a major strength of the business.
OUR AMISH CLIENTS & CUSTOMERS IN WESTERN PA:
For many years, Sereday's Hardware & Feed has proudly served Amish families throughout western Pennsylvania. The relationships built with these customers have been based on trust, reliability, and personal service. This directory contains the mailing addresses of Amish customers who have historically purchased feed, farm supplies, hardware, and other merchandise. Since many Amish families do not have personal telephones, this directory is intended to provide the new owner with a way to introduce themselves by mail or in person and continue these long-standing customer relationships.
Delivery Schedule
• Tuesday: Deliveries primarily served customers in the Mercer and New Wilmington areas, particularly those located closer to Mercer.
• Friday: Deliveries primarily served customers in the New Castle and New Wilmington areas, particularly those located closer to New Castle and West Middlesex.
These routes were developed over many years for efficiency and customer convenience. A future owner may adjust the routes as needed.
Placing Orders
Most Amish customers call in their feed and supply orders before delivery days. We traditionally did not record telephone numbers, as many families use a community phone, an employer's phone, or another shared business telephone that may change over time. Instead, communication has always been based on familiarity with the customer and their mailing address.
This directory is intended to provide the new owner with a solid foundation for continuing these long-standing customer relationships. It is recommended that the new owner introduce themselves to customers, verify mailing addresses over time, and update this directory as needed.
A Note to the Future Owner
Our Amish customers have been loyal supporters of Sereday's Hardware & Feed for many years. They value honesty, consistency, and dependable service. If you treat them fairly, deliver what you promise, and take the time to get to know them, you'll find they are some of the most loyal customers you could ask for.
While this directory provides names and addresses, the true value lies in the relationships behind them. We encourage you to introduce yourself, listen to their needs, and continue the tradition of personal service that has been the foundation of this business for over four decades.
