Taino. PreColumbian. Superb three headed Zemi. No other example know with 3 distinct finely crafted Anthropic heads. Each head has eyes that are drill through, a unique Taino design element. The two distal heads are rounded and dimensional while the cabeza at the top is a more compressed formate. A collar of alternating triangle encircles the top head. Both sides are completely decorated with incised swirls representing bird heads. A small depression centers each side of the cone. The base is slightly concave and cupped following ancient design models for Zemi bases. There is a thin shallow linear fissure across the the top left of the cone natural to the stone. Made from a granitoid stone. Length 7.8” Taino Culture c600-1500 AD. From the estate of Dr. Robert Woodruff, Professor of Entomology U.of Fl. Dr. Woodruff identified beetles and other insects from the Dominican Republic from the late 1960s to 1990s. While there he collected Taino art on his excursions. BIDDING
Bidding advances shall be regulated by the auctioneer and shall be at his discretion. He or she has the right to refuse any bids. Some of the items offered at auction are subject to a reserve. A reserve is a minimum price agreed upon by the consignor of the property and the auction house. The auctioneer may bid on behalf of the consignor in order to reach the minimum sale amount. If the minimum amount is not reached, the auctioneer may pass the item.
