Taino. PreColumbian. Finely detail ceremonial belt or collar depicting a long tailed reptilian figure. A large bulge at the top Carrie’s the familiar Taino symbols of interconnected bird heads. Though these are associated with wearing during ball games this was not the case. Many were too small or too heavy to have been used in such a manner. They may have been goal hoops as they are often found on or near ball courts. However it should be remembered other rituals took place on these communal courts. Made of magnetite with positive field. Length 12”. Taino culture c600-1500 AD. Purchased from PreColumbian Antillian dealer Dan Pucara, in the early 1980s NYC to Alfredo Carrada collection NYC and Miami Beach. BIDDING
