Taino. PreColumbian. Large, beautifully detailed bone ladle with anthropic top. The head is in high relief as are the rather abstract. Arms the rise next to the head. The legs are deeply incised just under the subjects chin. A single Incised line define the margins of the ladle. On back series of Incised lives symbolize ribs. A ladle this size was likely used to distribute cohoba during hallucinogenic rituals. Manatee bone, probably made from a scapula. Length 7.3 inches. Taino Culture. c600-1500AD This lot has a reserve.
