Taino. PreColumbian. Batman (shaman) bone full figure effigy. This was likely carried during nocturnal rituals to invoke the spirit of the bat, a primary ally of the shaman. This piece is quite animated with well defined pointed canines indicative of vampire bats. The wings have shallow indentions. These and the incised beaks symbolize bird heads. Manatee bone. BIDDING
Bidding advances shall be regulated by the auctioneer and shall be at his discretion. He or she has the right to refuse any bids. Some of the items offered at auction are subject to a reserve. A reserve is a minimum price agreed upon by the consignor of the property and the auction house. The auctioneer may bid on behalf of the consignor in order to reach the minimum sale amount. If the minimum amount is not reached, the auctioneer may pass the item. The auctioneer reserves the right to bid on behalf of clients and vendors, but shall not be liable for errors or omissions in executing instructions to bid.
