This is an excellent example of an early WWII code Luger pistol rig, as manufactured by the Mauser factory. These were the standard WWII Luger used by all German forces and are a primary Luger variation, in any military collection. This example is even rarer and it is mated with an original "SS" proofed black leather holster. The back side is marked "E. LUNDSCHLOSS/SOLINGEN/1939/WaA727/Eagle/WaA1", with the three-bent arm "SS" Rune of the "28th SS" Division commonly called the "Wallonia Division". This SS Division was actually proposed and organized by the famous Leon Degrelle in 1941 and was made up of French speaking Belgium volunteers. Degrelle was an elected official in the Belgium Parliament and was an ardent anti-communist who actually joined the "SS" in 1941 after Germany invaded Russia. Thus unit served on the Eastern front and fought almost to the last man. Degrelle joined not as an officer but as a private so that he could serve and experience the hardships along side his countrymen. He rose through the ranks and eventually commanded that Division by the end of the war. This Division finally became know as the "28th SS Panzer Division, Wallonia". He was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves, personally by Hitler in 1944. After WWII he wrote a book based on his memoirs while serving on the Eastern front and in that unit. The chamber is dated 1939 and the front toggle has the wartime code of "S/42", for the Mauser factory. The right side barrel extension is stamped double "Eagle/63" Waffenamt proof along with the single eagle firing proof. It is numbered in the military fashion with the full serial number (3251) on the major components, with the last two digits (51) stamped on the various small parts. It is complete with two matching, WWII magazines, that have the unmarked, folded sheet metal magazine bodies with the aluminum bases. The bases are marked "3251/w/Eagle 63" and "3251/w/+/Eagle 63" respectively. This rig is complete with an Eagle/63 marked luger take down tool.
