Stunning high art engraved belt buckle signed in reverse “LD Nimschke” dated 1853. This buckle is pictured in L. D. Nimschke, Firearms Engraver by R. L. Wilson, Page 5. The buckle was made in such a way that itcould be used to print stationary by simply applying ink and pressing onto the paper. The buckle is magnificently engraved with lady liberty seated, leaning on the Union shield holding the American flag surrounded byfinest cut scrolls, all in finest detail this banknote engraver was known for. It is our opinion this buckle was the property of L.D. Nimschke and is suitable for inclusion in any museum or firearms collection as he was oneof the top two engravers of the period and only a handful of artifacts exist with his signature or his own personal property. This buckle was not only useful, it was definitely a sales tool that he could carry with himand show off. The buckle measures approx. slightly over 1-3/4” in height by nearly 4” in width.
