One of the finest examples of an Anna Pottery pig flask featuring a presentation poem to an prominent citizen as well as political statements regarding Horace Greeley and his run for the Presidency, and a detailed railroad and river guide. This Albany slip pig flask is a true piece of Americana Folk Art and hits all the marks for desirability. Down the back of the pig incised is the Mississippi River with the verbiage "Miss River" a marking denotes St. Louis and is "St Louis the Future Capital in _" and points to the rear of the pig. The Kirkpatricks are vocalizing their frustration with the unsuccessful bid to move the Nations Capitol from Washington D.C. to St. Louis. Under the statement about St. Louis inscribes is " Latest & Most Reliable R.R & R. Guide". The presentation begins "To/ S. Barbour The King of Civil Engineers" Below is the following incised poem, "The Prince of Good Fellows, Honest Pious And Virtuous, Strictly Temperate And Liberal To A Fault Never Drinks Anything Himself But Always Keeps A Little Good Old Rye For His Friends In A (drawing of a hand with a finger pointing to the hogs rear)" The left side of the pig host a small brimmed hat as found on the "Horace Greeley Pig Flask" on the hat is the incised verbiage "The Greeley Trap". The paddle that triggers the trap is incised with "Office". The railroad and river guide is fantastic and is inscribed with the following towns and railroads "C&V R. R., I.C. R.R, O & M R.R., G.B. I.C. R. R. Murphysboro, Grand Tourer, Kaolin, Jonesburo, Mounds, Anna Pottery Carbondale, Centraila, Odin Vincens. The underbelly is incised with "Cincinnati the Porkopolis" and "Ohio River".
