Steyr model 1893 bolt-action sporting rifle, barrel nicely hand-engraved, signed and shot by W. J. Jeffrey & Co, King St, St James, London, serial #13164 on barrel. Rifle measures 45-1/2” overall with 26” barrel. The rifle shows a British three-leaf folding rear sight, covered front sight with folding bolt peep sight missing its aperture. The left side of the breech is marked “Nitro proved” and shows “2.56” marking for approx.6.5mm. The gun is nicely stocked in great grain walnut with some light cleaning to the wood and an English quality refinish long ago of which most remains. There is a plaque inset into the belly of the stock which isperiod engraved “Presented To Wm. Stewart by a few friends on his leaving Pitaldonich July, 1969. The action is good, bore fair to good and looks like it will clean nicely. The rifle shows mounts for hook type slingswivels. We believe the inscription generated from Pitaldonich Farm, in the Scottish Highlands. From the Robert Petersen collection. Est: $900 - $1,800
