This is an example of one of approximately 20,600 percussion carbines manufactured by Starr Arms Company of Yonkers, New York circa 1862 to 1865. This carbine is a 54 caliber percussion single shot with a falling block breech mechanism. The lock is marked "STARR ARMS CO./YONKERS, N.Y." and the upper tang is marked "STARRS PATENT/SEPT. 14TH 1858 directly behind the hammer. The top of the barrel in front of the rear sight is marked "STARR ARMS CO YOUNKERS N.Y.", the serial number appears on the bottom of the barrel under the forearm. The left side at the breech is marked "L.A.B." and the left side of the rear sight base is marked with the letter "B". Fixed front and two leaf folding rear sights, saddle ring and staple mounted on the left rear of the receiver and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a boxed "EF" cartouche on the left wrist and brass buttplate with a small letter "F" stamped on the heel tang.

Good as refinished. The metal surfaces, except for the lever and lower tang, have an artificial smooth brown patina. The barrel has had a coat of protective lacquer applied to it. The lever and lower tang have a smooth gray patina. The wood has been reoiled and remains good with a few overall scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear and sharp. Mechanically fine.
