Springfield model 1873 1st Model trapdoor carbine, .45-70 caliber, serial #18347 in prime Custer Range near 18383 and 18187 which are recorded as numbers recaptured or issued to the 7th Cavalry. The carbine shows a dark brown patina finish with light to slightly heavy scattered erosion and surface pitting, some faint traces of finish, good sharp markings, matching metal surfaces. The carbine shows correct small parts, the stockshows an old break that has been repaired long ago and the stock shows evidence of having been wrapped as it is darkened in the wrist area and was positively hide wrapped at one point. The stock is somewhat rough andweathered, worn. Lock markings are good, bore is very rough and almost shot out. A prime 7th Cav carbine that may have been at the battle of The Little Big Horn.
