Springfield model 1861 rifled musket, originally .58 caliber, 39-1/2” barrel, dated 1863. Bored out or shot-out to approx. .62 caliber smooth. The lock markings are good with mostly visible eagle. The metal surfaces show some light to moderate pitting and erosion and the stock shows a large chunk of wood missing at front of bolster. The stock shows some scratches, mars, dings, and losses around area of front barrel band in ramrodgroove. The ramrod is a European style old replacement. The action is good, the original rear sight is retained. A veteran of many civil war battles and was probably taken home and used as a game gun. Est: $600 - $1,200
