Springfield model 1795 U.S. Flintlock musket, .69 caliber, 44-1/2” barrel, 60” overall. Lock dated 1809. Type three variation with 1809 also matching the date on the butt. Shows rounded flash pan, triggerguard which is rounded at both ends, and thick wrist and very slight cutout in comb and cheek recess. The gun remains in good to very good condition showing a lightly cleaned to grey finish, some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. Some slightly heavier pitting around the breech and firing areas. Proper small parts. Shows bayonet lug on muzzle. Good markings. The touchhole has been enlarged during period of use. The stock is fair showing small repairs, losses of wood around the tang, some gouges and scratches, small losses around ramrod channel. A correct style ramrod is included. The stock shows the number 15 stamped behind the triggerguard with a “V” type inspection mark. The front sling swivel is missing. A key early U.S. musket, probably used in the War of 1812.
