Springfield Model 1903 ramrod bayonet rifle re-assembled from parts possibly by Bannerman, serial number 6713. The barrel measures approximately 24” and the rifle measures 43 ½” overall. There is a R. D. R. Inspectors markbehind the trigger guard with no other markings on the stock. The metal surfaces show a combination of bright, parkerized and blued finishes. The stock and forend do not match well. The action appears to have been parkerized at a later date. The rifle retains an early rear sight and early front sight. The rod bayonet retains most of its original blue and the front barrel band retains nearly all its original blue. The barrel shows a bright polish and may have never been blued. Weare uncertain if the caliber is .30-06 or the original .303. The bore is near mint and shows no use. An early leather and brass mounted sling is included. Original ramrod bayonet rifles are priced in excess of $30,000 and with some carefulrestoration to match the finishes this 1903 would be an acceptable display piece. Refer Flayderman 9A-424.
