Springfield Model 1884 trapdoor rifle in .45-70 caliber remaining in fine to excellent original condition serial number 298518. The rifle retains 95% to 98% original blue on the barrel with some slight scratches and minor losses around themuzzle. The lock plate shows 80% to 90% original blue going slightly dull with some coating of dried oil that may clean. The breech block shows 90% to 95% bright and fiery case hardening. The bands, trigger guard and cleaning rod show 80% to90% original blue. The butt plate shows 30% to 50% toning blue with some minor erosion and beginning pinprick pitting. The stock is very good plus to near fine with some storage dings, mars and minor scratches but shows a very good and clear SVWcartouche and year date 1886. The cleaning rod channel shows just a couple of minor dents and no losses or problems. The interior is near excellent and the bore is bright. A strong 9.5 on a 1 to 10 scale. Est.: $1750-$3500
