U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Single Shot Breechloading Military Trapdoor Carbine, #449529, .45-70 CF cal., 22'' round barrel (measured from muzzle to breech face) marked ''V/P/(eaglehead)'' at breech and fitted with the standard block-blade front sight and correct ''C''-marked Buffington adjustable leaf carbine rear sight; trapdoor marked ''U.S/Model/1884'' in three lines at hinge; flat lockplate marked ''U.S./Springfield'' in two lines ahead of a detailed spread-eagle holding olive branches; steel furniture including correct carbine sling bar and ring opposite lock, single spring-retained barrel band, triggerguard having a long rear tang, and ''US'' marked buttplate with sliding door revealing trap for three-piece cleaning rod. One-piece walnut carbine halfstock. Mfg'd 1886-89. Condition is good to very good, having a mostly smooth brown age patina to metal. Stock with moderate scars and battering from hard military use. Overall the gun is sound, complete and original as issued. Action is very tight and crisp; bore is shiny with distinct rifling. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)
