Springfield Model 1875 US Trapdoor Officers model, 2nd type, with checkered wood removable pistol grip, refer Flayderman 9A-368. The rifle shows no rear tang sight and the area where the tang sight normally inletted into the wrist and has been arsenal checkered and filled with a plug by same hand that checkered the stock. There is a small “78” stamped just behind the tang, which is also unusual. The rifle shows approx. 95-98% original blue on barrel, just some slight aging and a few pinpricks just starting. The lock, breech, and hammer show 70-80% original case hardening slightly drifting to silver with minor spotting and erosion and some very good rainbow colors still showing. The inside of the triggerguard shows a “22” stamp. The stock is fine to near excellent with crisp checkering and no evidence of cartouche other than “P” behind the checkering in the belly of the stock. The buttplate has drifted to a silvery grey, matching to the barrel band, with some minor spotting and erosion. The original front and rear sights are retained and the front sight is a blade German silver post-type intended for use with the rear barrel sight rather than the normal beech type folding globe front sight w
