Springfield Model 1873 trapdoor rifle in .45-70 caliber, serial number 68258 made in 1876 the same year as The Custer Battle. The rifle remains in good to very good condition. The metal surfaces show 30% to 50% original blue drifting to grayishbrown with some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The markings on the lock are good and the Eagle is well defined. The cartouche is not visible on the stock but the ā€œPā€ proof behind the trigger guard is mostlyvisible. The stock shows some dings, mars, circular impressions or designs and small losses with minor repairs to the forend. The action is good and the bore is at least good and may clean. There is a rack number 20 on the butt stamped into the wood by the butt plate. From the collection of William A. Gary consigned by his estate. Est.: $350-$700
