Springfield Model 1871 rolling block rifle dated 1872 in .50-70 caliber remaining in fine to near excellent original condition with 36” barrel secured by two barrel bands. The rifle shows 95% plus original bright case hardening on action with arsenal bright finish on barrel and small parts. The bright finished areas shows slight beginning rust that may clean with oil but still very near excellent metal surfaces. The stocks show a good cartouche and some slight oil staining and minor storage dings and mars. The edges of the ramrod channel show a few small losses. The original ramrod is retained and sight shows most original blue. The action is crisp and the bore is very good. There are just a couple small chips of wood missing in the tang area. A strong 9+ on a scale of 1 to 10. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
