This is a Scott Duff restoration, purchased from him in 2006. A rifle of this serial number could have been originally been of either gas trap or gas port configuration. there is no way to say with certainty. This restored example is in very good condition with the receiver having a dark parkerized finish and is loaded with many early parts. The SA 8-40 barrel has a bright and shiny bore with TE=3.5, MW=1.5, and no chrome at the gas port. Featured parts include -T1 heat lot bolt, round firing pin, unmodified-1-SA op rod, gas cylinder with drawing number, front sight seal, solid lock screw, early follower, B8875-1SA bullet guide, early op rod catch, full round body type 2 follower rod, wire op rod spring, grooved rear handguard clip, grooved lower band, short piston with flush nut, checkered windage knob and elevation cap, B8872 rear sight cover, -12-0SA trigger housing, C-46025-1-SA trigger guard, C46008-2A hammer, C46015-6SA no hole safety, no finish hammer spring plunger and housing, milled stock ferrule, trap type buttplate and early (GHS) stock with slant clip latch cut and short channel with no visible cartouche of ordnance emblem, with a visible proof P in circle. The handguards match the color and condition of the stock. Included an undated M1907 leather sling with brass hardware. Overall, this is a very nice looking early rifle with some very scarce early parts. Comes with Scotts data sheets, sales receipt. Scott Duff is the author of many books on the M1 Garand, and is considered one of the leading experts in the field. NRA Condition-Excellent. C&R Firearm.
