Springfield 1st Model carbine, .45-70 caliber in Custer Range, serial #17792. Near serial number range of several known specimens recaptured from hostiles after the battle of The Little Big Horn. The carbine showscorrect lock, bands, sights, buttplate, long wrist stock. The saddle-ring and bar have been removed as has the front swivel. The stock is a later arsenal replacement, the metal surfaces have been cleaned, the tacksare decorative and added in the late 20th century in our opinion. The condition is fair to good overall with light cleaning to the metal surfaces, good markings. All correct 1st model except for arsenal changed stock.Est: $1,000 - $2,000
