Blued single-shot trapdoor cartridge rifle with a 32-1/2" barrel, 2 barrel bands, sling swivels, lockplate stamped "U.S. Springfield" and "1863", rear ladder sight and ramrod. Metal finish is mostly worn back to in-the-white or a patina with some pin-prick and deeper pitting. Front barrel band is loose. Both barrel bands are stamped with a "U". Buttplate is a patina with evidence of surface rust and pitting. It is stamped "US". The wood stock is dark with dings, dents, rubs, chips, bruises, and a gouge. Cartouches on left side of stock. May be "ESA" (twice) and "FWS"(?). Bore is dirty but shiny with sharp rifling. Action works well. Condition is good plus as an antique. *Antique Firearm*
