Spencer carbine, early Civil War issue, arsenal rebuilt for Indian war with stabler cutoff, 19” barrel, serial #10868. The carbine remains in good to very good condition showing 60-80% original blue on barrel evenly drifting and toning at the muzzle and on edges, some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The frame, lock, hammer, and lever show 10-20% case hardening going to silvery grey with some light cleaning long ago. The stock is good to very good with some dings, mars, scratches, a couple of gouges. A clear “L.C.” cartouche is located just behind the saddle-ring bar. The buttstock shows carved initials “C.W.” twice on left side. The buttplate and magazine show some original finish. The action is tight, the bore is very good, all original small parts are retained. The carbine was originally an early Civil War issue, rebuilt in the early Indian war period with desirable LCA cartouche. Est: $1,750 - $3,500
