Spencer Sporting rifle in .56-52 Spencer caliber with 30” round barrel, serial number 2358 belonging to Elias Reigle member of 66 Illinois infantry aka “The Western Sharpshooters” and originally sold by Little John’s for hisdescendants along with his inscribed Henry rifle. Also sold at that time was his 66 Illinois sharp shooter corps badge, and other ephemera including photographs of Reigle. (Refer Little John’s Important Firearms auction January 9, 2005,session 1 item 105 and 106). This rifle shows a dark brown patina finish with some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The stock shows a split by the top of the frame and small losses of wood around that area. The woodwould be rated as only fair. The action is good and the bore is good. The rear sight is a ladder type addition similar to Henry rifle. A large documentation folio is included with this rifle and a signed affidavit transferring this rifle atpoint of original sale. The affidavit traces the ownership directly to the hands of Elias S. Reigle through family members.
