Spencer Sporting Rifle with 26” factory round barrel in .44 Caliber (.56-46 Spencer caliber) remaining in very good plus condition, serial number 1861. The barrel shows 30% to 50% original blue drifting to a grayish brown patina with some bright finish mixed in. The frame shows 10% to 20% case hardening mixed in with a silvery gray to brown patina with some light evidence of case hardening and rainbow colors where protected. The stocks have been lightly refinished which is well done but are down slightly from the metal. The tang shows 2 holes one in front and one behind the serial number from a tang sight that is missing. The address on the frame is very good and still sharp and clear with Spencer Repeating Rifle Company, Boston, Mass address and 1860 date. The original front and rear sights are retained and the action works well. The bore is bright and at least very good plus to near fine. An original magazine is retained. The interior of the action shows great case hardening. A very nice Spencer sporting rifle that could’ve made the Civil War or been used on the early frontier possibly as a Buffalo gun. Est.: $2500- $5000
