Spencer Model 1865 Repeating Saddle Ring Carbine

Fixed blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated to 900 yards. The top of the barrel is marked "MODEL/1865" at the breech, "SPENCER REPEATING/RIFLE CO.BOSTON MASS//PATD MARCH 6 1860" is marked on top of the receiver and the serial number is marked on top of the receiver next to the hammer. Most of the parts are marked with single letter inspection marks. Saddle ring and bar mounted on the left wrist and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a sling swivel. The left side of the stock behind the saddle ring bar is stamped with two crisp boxed cartouches on the left wrist. Although most Model 1865 Spencer carbines were delivered too late for use in the Civil War, they were used extensively by cavalry regiments on the frontier until replaced by the U.S. Model 1873 Springfield Carbine.

Very fine. The barrel retains 90% original blue finish fading to a smooth plum in areas. The receiver and hammer retain 40% faded original case colors with a smooth brownish gray on the balance. The lock and lever have a smooth mottled gray patina and the buttplate retains 95% original bright case colors. The wood is very fine with some scattered minor dings and marks, as well as some tape residue on the rear of the comb. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
