Fixed blade front sight and folding rear sight graduated to 900 yards. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "M 1865" and the top of the receiver is marked "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS / PAT'D MARCH 6 1960" and the serial number is marked on the top rear of the receiver. The hammer is marked with the letter "l", there is a "W" on the left side of the frame, "C" on the rear of the lock plate and a "P" on the saddle ring base. The carbine is equipped with the Stabler cut-off device. The barrel was blue and casehardened remaining parts, saddle ring and bar mounted on the left wrist and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a sling swivel. Although most Model 1865 Spencer carbines were delivered too late for use in the Civil War, they were used extensively by cavalry regiments on the frontier until replaced by the U.S. Model 1873 Springfield Carbine.

Condition: About good. The metal surfaces have a smooth brown patina with some minor oxidation forming on the receiver. The buttstock has a hairline crack on top of the wrist extending from the frame to the base of the comb, a small absent chip next to the hammer and three notches cut on top of the wrist. There is a small piece of wood absent from the upper right rear of the forearm, some shallow gouging, and overall there are scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
