Spencer Carbine 1865 SRC NVSN
Spencer Indian Wars repeating carbine with hard frontier wear and Indian tacks. This carbine found in a family home long ago by John Turner in Oregon 30 miles from Ft. Henry. The serial number is not legible and the metal shows are dark brown uncleaned patina the stocks are worn and weathered with hard wear and hard case. the right forearm has a 1 1/2" chip out of it. The sight has been reworked during use to V notch reducing original ladder and making it simple and quick. An extra large ring added to belly of buttstock. The tacks vary in age from 19th Century to early 20th in our opinion. Some are worn down showing remnants of square steel shafts and some tacks missing. Model 1865 and address on frame is very visible and clear. Action working and magazine retained. Though hard used this carbine was kept in serviceable shooting condition. It is the considered opinion of John R. Gangel (Little John) that this is an authentic Indian tacked and used Spencer. Cartridges were found at the battle site of the "Little Big Horn" and many of the Indian participants fled west and to Canada.
NRA Condition-Good. Antique Firearm.
