Colt Single Action Cavalry Model Revolver manufactured in 1887 and inspected by Ordnance Sub-Inspector David F. Clark (DFC). The revolver has a military blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, loading gate and hammer have a color casehardened finish. The one-piece walnut grip has an oil finish. The revolver has the oval ejector rod head introduced at approximately serial number 113,000 and the cavalry style hammer with elongated bordered knurling on the spur and a cone-shaped firing pin. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the elongated block letter address "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." There are small "D.F.C." sub-inspection stamps are located on the underside of the barrel, the bottom of the frame and the side of the cylinder. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the underside of the barrel in front of the sub-inspection mark and on the side of the cylinder. The left side of the frame is stamped with the Colt three-dates/three-line patent markings followed by the "U.S." property mark. The assembly number "492" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. Colt "O", "G" and "J" inspection marks are stamped on the underside of the barrel behind the ejector housing stud. Colt "S" and "O" inspection marks are stamped on the rear face of the cylinder between the chambers. "O" is stamped in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. The full serial number, "119442" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "9442" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and the side of the cylinder. The lower left side of the grip is stamped with the date "1887" above the Ordnance final inspection mark which consists of the script initials "J.G.B," unenclosed, standing for John G. Butler. The lower right side of the grip is stamped with the Ordnance sub-inspection mark consisting of the script initials "D.F.C." in a rectangle.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Long Colt
Finish: Blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 119442
Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 90% of the original military blue and color casehardened finish. The barrel has nearly all of the blue finish with some minor holster wear at the muzzle and on the tip and right side of the ejector housing. The feathered Colt polishing marks are clearly visible on either side of the front sight blade and above the ejector housing stud. The cylinder has close to 90% of the blue finish intact; with some edge wear of the front of the cylinder and some minor turn marks. Most of the blue is present on the forward portion of the trigger guard and back strap top and butt. The contact portions of the grip strap and back strap have a smooth gray patina. At least 85% of the color casehardened finish is present on the frame and the case colors are vivid. Wear is limited to some silvering on the recoil shield. The sides of the hammer have nearly all the casehardened finish; the top of the hammer and loading gate have faded to a silver patina. The frame screws are in excellent condition and retain most of the niter blue finish. The grip remains fine condition with a clear 1887 date and Ordnance inspection marks with some dings on butt. All of the markings on the revolver are sharp. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is a fine example of a "DFC" sub-inspected Colt Single Action Cavalry revolver.
