Special Order Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle, .44-40 cal., 28” octagon barrel, full magazine, blue and case hardened finish, 1X checkered wood stocks, rifle butt plate, #122178A in overall very good original condition with the barrel and magazine tube showing approx. 85% evenly toning and aging blue finish with some minor spotting, light erosion, normal aging and a pleasing look. The edges of the barrel are sharp, the barrel address is crisp; the left side of the action shows approx. 70%case hardening, the right side shows about the same but is brighter with more colors; the top of the frame shows approx. 50% case hardening with the bottom of the frame showing approx. 80% with some fiery colors beneath the lever. The stocks are very good + , show no varnish and may have been oil finished as they are slightly dark. The checkering has been cleaned or retraced very slightly. The forend cap shows approx. 50% + case hardening , the buttplate shows traces of case hardening; the hammer and lever also show approx. 50% case hardening; the dust cover shows approx. 75% + bright original blue, the loading gate shows almost 90% bright original blue. The action is good, the bore is very good + and still bright and may clean to near excellent. An attractive ’73 Winchester with desirable case hardened receiver. Est.: $7,000-$9,000.
