Spear point Bowie knife by Tillotson and Co. with studded marine ivory grip. The blade showing makers name and address as Columbia Place with American Eagle at center portion and logo, “Best Quality”. This exact knife was formally in the Bill Williamson collection sold by Butterfields at lot number 3501. Also in Bob Ables collection where it bears his nail polish inventory marking number 53. The Williamson catalog describes the knife as going to San Francisco during the gold rush probably where it received the walrus ivory and tack decoration. The blade shows some minor pitting and etching but is at least very good being constructed of thick stock with nearly full original dimensions and most of its original polish, light cleaning and normal wear to the grip scales. The scabbard retains original tip, throat and was silver plated but is missing its button hanger. The scabbard is good with some flaking, losses, and just normal aging. From two of the great old collectors and a well referenced Bowie. Est.: $10,000 -$20,000.
