Spanish military style cup-hilt rapier, circa approx. 1675-1750. Blade is engraved in block letters “Pro Deo et Patria” (For God and Country). The sword measures nearly 38” overall, blade reduced during period of useto approx. 31”. The grip shows an old thick copper wire rewrap, probably done in the colonies. The sword shows a dark grey to brown patina with some pitting and erosion. The blade has never been out of its hilt. The condition is good overall. Just the type the Spanish carried to the new world during the colonial era. The guard shows an old forged repair. The quillons measure approx. 9” across. Est: $400 - $800
