Spanish cup hilt rapier in military style circa 17th to early 18th century showing 34 ½” blade and 42” overall. illegible markings in center groove of blade that may have been military. The blade has been reducedslightly and is in good condition with good temper showing some minor pitting and erosion. The quilons measure nearly 11” across and the cup and metalwork is all very good and hand forged. The grip is copper wire wrapped and shows some old soldered repairs that were done during the period of use. The metal surfaces were lightly cleaned long ago but edges still good. There is some scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting butabsolutely a genuine Spanish colonial era rapier of the type carried to the New World. Est.: $1,250-$2,500.
