Snider Enfield conversion of percussion musket to .577 center-fire caliber with tower 1869 marked lock. This rifle is of a select quality and has a period engraved inscription plaque affixed to the underside of theforend just in front of the trigger guard which reads, “Won by private T.E. Lander July 10” with “D. R. A. matches 1889” engraved around top of plaque and “800 yards” around the bottom. The plaque is absolutely genuineto the period and the rifle is stocked in a select wood showing a nice striped grain and of a light color possibly Maple. The metal surfaces have been commercial quality blued probably at time of presentation and showsome light to slightly heavy surface rust most of which will clean and some very bright fire blue on screws and there is a Snider marked nickel silver cover for the folding rear sight included. A period cleaning rod is retained and the action is good also the bore is good. This interesting presentation should be further researched. Est.: $900-$1,800.
