Smith’s patent .52-caliber breech loading Civil War carbine by American Machine Works, Springfield Mass, blue and case hardened finish, cartouched wood stocks. The carbine remains in fine to excellent original condition, the barrel shows 95-98% original blue just toning slightly. The frame, action and hammer show 85-95% case hardening, some slight drifting on the left, very bright and colorful on the right with beautiful rainbow hues. The band shows drifting to patina. The release spring which holds the action shows 98% bright original blue. The stocks are fine to near excellent, showing two sharp cartouches, some minor bumps and storage marks only. The action is tight, the bore is excellent. The carbine shows virtually no use, just some slight storage and aging, and is a strong 9.7-9.8 on a 1-10 scale. Serial #6476. Est: $3,000 - $6,000
