Smith and Wesson Registered Model .357 Magnum, Serial #51994. Manufactured in 1937, the pistol is in overall very good condition with a 5” barrel. The pistol retains 80-85% of its high polish blued finish, showing a loss of finish on both sides of the barrel consistent with holster wear. The pistol comes with an outstanding pair of stag grips, showing typical toning and wear. The bore is very good, action crisp and markings sharp. The pistol also comes with a left handed, El Paso marked period holster. The open top holster is in overall good condition. According to the consigner, the pistol was purportedly the duty weapon of a Texas lawman. Included, a factory letter dated August 29, 1997, indicating this revolver was shipped from the factory on September 9, 1937, and delivered to Momsen, Dunnegan & Ryan Co., El Paso, TX., shipped with a 5” barrel, equipped with a Call gold bead front sight, square notch rear sight, magna stocks and a blue finish. The handgun was sighted at 25 yards using magnum ammunition and a 6 o’clock hold. The consignor also wrote “I bought this gun with holster from one of your 1970’s auctions. This distinctive item with stag grips and left handed duty holster could be known to an old time Ranger”. (C+R). Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
