Smith & Wesson pre-model 27 .357 Magnum caliber double action 5 screw revolver with 8 3/8” barrel serial number S108040. The revolver is nicely engraved in a scroll motif which is cut through the original bluefinish and shows gold inlay of Eagle on right side of frame and bear on left side of frame with accenting wide scroll border gold inlays on barrel. The revolver remains in very good plus to near fine condition showing most of its original blue and just some minor handling of light aging. The hammer and trigger show considerable original case hardening. The pistol is fitted with nicely carved ivory grips showing a steer head onright side with inlaid Smith & Wesson medallions. The top of the frame and rib show nail file type knurling. The action is good and the bore is excellent. The bottom edge of the frame on left front is signed F. Runge,engraver, Ilion New York.
