Smith & Wesson double-action .38 caliber 3rd model revolver, nickel plated, medallion pearl grips, in fine to excellent condition, serial #287145, with backstrap marked “Am Ex Co 295”. Factory letter states this pistolwas shipped from S&W to Hartley & Graham of New York City on September 30th, 1893. The letter further states the American Express Company purchased a large quantity of this model from Hartley & Graham before they began ordering from Smith & Wesson directly. The pistol retains approx. 95-98% original bright nickel finishing. Shows fine original S&W pearl medallion grips. The triggerguard shows 90% blue. The hammer and trigger showconsiderable case hardening. The markings are sharp, the edges are crisp, the bore still bright. A very crisp and early S&W DA and the only example we recall being nickeled with pearl and American Express Co. marked. Est:$1,400 - $2,800
