Smith & Wesson Schofield First Model Single Action revolver, Wells, Fargo & Co. marked, .45 cal., 5-1/8” barrel, nickel finish, wood grips, #1022. This gun is in overall very good condition showing approx. 30% nickelfinish with balance of gun gone to a dark brown patina, crisp action, very good markings including “W.F. & Co. 1022” on right side of barrel assembly over the patent date, fair bore, good to very good gripsshowing wear and scattered mars and scratches from carry and storage. Accompanied by a copy of a factory letter dated 1984 indicating this serial number gun was shipped from the factory on July 12, 1875 anddelivered to the United States Armory located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Wells Fargo and Co. purchased a number of surplus military Schofields and shortened the barrels for use in service with the Company whilealso markings them using the serial number in the stamping as their inventory number.
